If You Gotta Go, You Oughta' Know! Dr. Angela Treadway on Urge Incontinence vs. Stress Incontinence
Thanks for tuning in to the Armor Men’s Health Hour Podcast today, where we bring you the latest and greatest in urology care and the best urology humor out there.
In this segment, NAU Urology Specialists' partner and pelvic floor physical therapist Dr. Angela Treadway talks urge incontinence with our very own Donna Lee. Dr. Treadway explains the types of incontinence that most people--both women and men--experience, including the difference between stress incontinence and urge incontinence. While stressors like coughing/sneezing might physically force urine out of the bladder, urge incontinence is more likely caused by the internal workings of the bladder. For example, bladder irritants found in common drinks such as coffee or diet sodas can trigger a contraction response in your bladder that gives you the urge to urinate, even if your bladder isn't actually full. Another example is "key in the keyhole" syndrome, which is an irresistible urge to empty the bladder triggered by proximity to a bathroom, regardless of how empty or full the bladder is. Regardless of the cause, if you or someone you love has ever experienced incontinence please give us a call today and let us help you restore your pelvic floor!
