Episode 21: Quarantine Drinking, Dollar Stores, & A Bulgarian Mystic
Kathleen opens the show wearing her blinking St. Louis Cardinals Christmas hat, and drinking a Bloody Mary made with the Pittsburgh Pickle Company’s Briney Mary mix and a Miller 64 beer as a side option.
DOLLY PARTON QUOTE: Kathleen reads a Dolly Parton quote involving dieting and eventually eating the diet book.
KATHLEEN’S CHRISTMAS WRAP: Kathleen is thrilled to have received 2 books for Christmas, including “The Billionaire Murders” which provides information and the backstory on the murders of Canadian billionaires Bill and Honey Sherman. Kathleen was also overjoyed to receive Dolly Parton’s “Dixie Fixin’s” cookbook under her tree, even though she’s not a very “active” cook.
“BAD GOOD FOOD”: In her quest for new and delicious not-so-nutritious junk food, Kathleen tastes Lay’s Salted Caramel potato chips, and gives a colorful opinion on their flavor. Her dad’s philosophy for a stomach issue is to eat an entire bag of Lay’s potato chips and drink a Coke, which Kathleen doesn’t agree with. She then tastes the newly released Hidden Valley Ranch Dipped Pizza Sauce, which she recommends on pizza, French fries, or anything else with salt ☺ Kathleen finishes her tasting menu by describing the cream cheese Danish Kringle that she purchases as a holiday tradition every year from the O&H Danish Bakery in Racine, WI.
JET PACK MAN STRIKES AGAIN: As a follow up to Episode 11, Kathleen reports that authorities are investigating another jet pack sighting in the Los Angeles area last week. Instead of flying around LAX, the secretive “Jet Pack Man” has been spotted by a flight school off the coast of the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
ANIMALS MOST LIKELY TO KILL YOU BY STATE: Kathleen continues with the new segment of the Pubcast: Animals Most Likely to Kill You (By State), as reported by the Center for Disease Control. If you live in Hawaii (specifically Maui) beware of Tiger Sharks, and in Indiana watch out for deer while driving.
BILLIONAIRE’S BUNKER: Kathleen reports that Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner have recently purchased a $30 million lot on Miami’s Indian Creek Island, preparing for Trump’s exit from the White House in January 2021.
BREAK DANCING AN OLYMPIC SPORT: Kathleen is thrilled to announce that the International Olympic Committee has officially adopted Break Dancing as an Olympic sport, beginning in the Paris Games in 2024. The IOC is meaning to target a younger audience, and along with break dancing they are including skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing in future Games.
QUARANTINE DRINKING: Kathleen laughs at a recent study regarding the revised drinking patterns of Americans working remotely as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Respondents admit to “remarkably” increased participation in virtual Happy Hours with colleagues while stuck at home, which Kathleen endorses ESPECIALLY in a pandemic.
HEAVEN’S GATE CULT: Kathleen is known to be obsessed with Cults and their methodology, and on the 23-year anniversary of the Heaven’s Gate cult’s mass suicide she reviews 10 things previously unknown about the group.
THE TRUE COST OF DOLLAR STORES: Kathleen’s nieces love nothing more than a. trip to The Dollar Store, which can make for a long afternoon as the choices on how to spend their allowance is seemingly unlimited. She reads an article about how these discount chains were formed, and the impact of those businesses on the local community as pertains not only to savings but also employment and crime.
WHAT TO WATCH THIS WEEK: Kathleen tells listeners to watch the Bee Gees documentary “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” on HBO Max, the documentary “Heaven’s Gate: The Cult of Cults” on HBO Max, and the 4-part docuseries “The Most Dangerous Animal Of All” on Hulu, which outlines a man’s obsession with proving that his father was the Zodiac Killer.
LEWIS BLACK CALLS IN: Kathleen’s BFF Lewis Black calls the Pub to discuss his NFL Fantasy Football picks and 70’s cults.
MYSTERY OF THE WEEK: Kathleen reads about the mystery of Bulgarian mystic Baba Vanga, who was born in 1911 and put on the Bulgarian government’s payroll because of the accuracy of her predictions. Kathleen reads aloud some of her notable predictions, and also Vanga’s predictions for 2021.
