Episode 25: We must keep digging, with The Sprawl's Jeremy Klaszus
In a little over three years, The Sprawl, a Calgary-based independent media outlet, has grown from a “pop-up” journalism initiative started in order to cover the 2017 municipal election, to more than 1,800 crowd-funding subscribers.
Simply put, Calgarians like what The Sprawl offers: truth.
That support has allowed The Sprawl to grow to a core group of seven that covers a wide range of issues facing citizens of the city and the province.
Editor-in-chief Jeremy Klaszus joins The Forgotten Corner to talk about his life in journalism and what led him to begin The Sprawl.
We chat about the differences and similarities between independent journalism and mainstream media. And we discuss the true intentions of journalism and why we believe that has been set aside in favour of a need to always be “balanced” or “unbiased.”
