Here’s why many of you are mistyped...
Today, we’re discussing subtypes, also called instinctual variants. Subtypes are how you can have two of the same Enneagram type look totally different from one another.
Listen now
Whereas your main Enneagram type doesn’t change, your instinctual variant can.
Usually it’s really dominant in one way until we do some work on ourselves. Early on in my life I was living much more only in one subtype, but now I can toggle between two different subtypes fairly easily.
Subtypes can alter what an Enneagram type looks like.
And this is exactly why so many of you are mistyped!
When I let someone know their type is different from what they expected, I usually guide them to look at their subtype—self-preservation, social, and/or one-to-one—which makes a lot more sense to them.
It’s not complicated, but it is complex.
That’s because the Enneagram has so many different levels to it. We have our main types, wings, levels of development, centers of intelligence (the Triads), subtypes, tri-types, etc.
But today I’m talking about all things subtypes: what they are, how they help, and how they're the determining factor when solidifying what your type really is.
Let’s dive in...
