We start an activity or sport, we train. Training makes us improve, we train more. We develop a routine, we become disciplined. Sometimes this very discipline we develop overrides our ability to make optimal decisions around are training and recovery.
In this episode I chat with Liz Cox, a now masters age running athlete who experienced all of this when she returned to her previously accomplished sport of competitive running into her 30's. We talk about how training as a masters age athlete changes how we train and recover and the challenges around getting the right programming, support and coaching (at any age really).
Liz found herself on the slippery slope of overtraining which like for many dedicated athletes by the time she developed the love and hunger for performance her body was already declining into an increasingly hard to recover from physiological state. Adrenal Fatigue is can be a controversial term depending on who you speak to however what is not controversial are the symptoms that develop physically (and mentally) when you push too hard for too long.
A relevant chat for so many of us... you sure don't have to be an athlete, over 40 or even into competitive sport to get a LOT out of listening in.
