Conspicuous Consumption: Cannibal Commentary in Ravenous and Eating Raoul
Fellas, is it gay to consume the flesh of your enemies in order to absorb their power, losing touch with your own humanity in the process? We at Not Your Final Girl agree - it’s pretty gay.
Our double feature for today includes varying amounts of monchin’ and cronchin’, several wendigos, increasingly slapstick murders, a mysterious stew, a dominatrix named Doris, and as you might imagine, a wee bit of critique of American culture. Come hang with Candace and Ariel while we pick at two off kilter cannibalism movies, the bizarrely dry Eating Raoul and a fun, grisly classic of the subgenre (and formative favorite of Candace’s), Ravenous.
Have you seen these movies? Have you got more tales of the most forbidden snack to recommend? Are you dying to see our gritty reboot of Eating Raoul? Do you want to argue about whether Guy Pearce sucks? We are here for you! Hop on over to Not Your Final Girl Gang on Facebook and let’s shout at each other.
Oh, and we’re @NYFGpod on Letterboxd if you want to check out all the movies we’ve talked about on the pod. You can also follow Candace at @crammpuss if you want to peek at what movies might be coming up next.
