Moment of Meditation: Invited or Chosen (Matthew 22:14)
''For many are called, but few are chosen (Matthew 22:14).''
Jesus truly calls many to faith. In fact, He calls all to faith. But few are chosen and elected for salvation. This is one of the greatest questions in Bible studies: Why are some saved and not others?
Many people try to answer this question. Some say it's all God's omniscient doing. God has chosen some for salvation. The rest are destined for Hell because God hasn't chosen them. Everything is in God's hands.
Others say it's all man's doing. Man either chooses to believe God or man chooses to reject God. Everything is in my hands.
The biblical answer to the question is that God calls everyone to faith. Man, in his sinful state, has no power or ability except to reject God. Man cannot accept God's salvation. Faith must be given by the Holy Spirit. It is not something that you can create within yourself. Simply put, "many are called, but few are chosen" because many choose to reject God's Word. They choose not to believe in the God who created heaven and earth. But those who cling to God's Word are saved and chosen for eternal salvation. Amen.
