On episode forty-two of the Gotta Be Saints Podcast, I spoke with Taylor Fielder of Candid Communion about saying yes to God and his plan.
Biography:
I’m Taylor, author behind Candid Communion. My mission is to support other young Catholic women, like me, and inspire and encourage them as we try and live out our faith in today’s culture! I grew up in a Catholic family with no sisters, and I never felt like I had a group of friends who shared the same faith and interests as me. Candid Communion is a place where we can enjoy all the fun that life brings, while staying centered in our faith!
Growing up I loved sports and doing anything active! My dad was a high school football coach (which, here in Texas is a religion of its own) so my Friday nights were usually spent on a sideline cheering him on. From a young age, my parents made sure we were centered in faith. I was that one Catholic girl among my Protestant friends who was always getting picked up early from the slumber party to make sure we made it to Mass.
I graduated from Texas Tech in 2015 where I studied Education and Sports Marketing. I was a member of Pi Beta Phi and a recruiting assistant for the football team before accepting a full time position after graduation in Football Recruiting and Operations. College is where I really took ownership of my faith. My family wasn’t there to make sure I got to Mass, and I quickly realized that this world will swallow you up if you don’t have anything firm to stand on. I got comfortable (maybe a little too comfortable) going to Mass alone and finding random times to visit Adoration. After a few years of this, I was convinced that I wouldn’t find friends at church who enjoyed the same hobbies and social scenes as I did.
Now, I spend my days running Athletic Operations for a school district here in the Dallas Fort Worth Area. You can still find me on the sidelines on Friday nights, but the rest of my time is spent socializing with friends, concerts, travelling and trying to follow wherever it is that God is calling me.
We open Instagram and are often told what to buy, how to dress, what to eat, what our bodies should look like, what we should believe, what “love” is supposed look like… It’s easy to scroll and sometimes forget that our identity is in Christ and Him alone. Candid Communion was created to affirm you, encourage you, and show you that there are others like you. I am not a biblical scholar and I don’t do everything perfectly, but I love our faith and want you and others to know that we can follow Christ today just as we are! He is waiting for us!
