It’s ironic because what I love about the Enneagram is it can help us connect the dots—which is essentially looking at our own history
I have to see how something’s going to work for me and be bought into it before I study its history. For me, it’s great you can tell me where something comes from, but can you tell me how to use it? This is one reason my specialty within the Enneagram practice is integration.
I’ve now used the Enneagram in all parts of my life for a decade
Now that I’m all-in, I’ve decided to take the time to understand the history of the Enneagram. So today, I share with you its history and origins.
Ennea means nine and gram means model
It has Greek roots, but the Enneagram’s origins are disputed. It’s connected to spiritual, mathematical, philosophical and psychological traditions.
Some authors believe it has connections with esoteric Christianity
Some believe the Enneagram symbol can be traced to the sacred geometry of Pythagorean mathematicians and mystical mathematics. Others talk of nine divine qualities that manifest in human nature.
