Can Hashimoto's cause night sweats? I would argue that it's probably the number one cause of night sweats. And the night sweats, hot flash area of physiology is kind of confusing. So when most people come in here and they list night sweats as a symptom that they're interested in resolving, if it's a woman they're usually thinking hormonal, all right? But they're not thinking thyroid hormonal, they're thinking estrogen hormonal, but night sweats are different than hot flashes. And in hot flashes you get hot all throughout your body, but night sweats you sweat. And so sweating comes more from the adrenal glands, yet the genesis of it is a attack on the thyroid, so you get an attack on your thyroid and Hashimoto's. Hashimoto's is an autoimmune problem. You get an attack on a thyroid that puts out an increased amount of thyroid hormone and it creates intermittently a lot of hyper symptoms.
What would those be? Anxiety. Panic attacks can even be set off by a Hashimoto's attack. Insomnia, inward trembling, and night sweats. Night sweats is kind of secondary because the thyroid hormone increases physiology throughout the body, and then it increases the physiology in your adrenal glands and then you get night sweats. So yeah. So actually, if somebody comes in here and says night sweats, they haven't mentioned anything about a thyroid, they don't even think they got a thyroid problem. First thing I'm doing is running the antibodies on them to see if they have Hashimoto's. So Hashimoto's, night sweats, more often than not that's the connection.
