Overindulgence in alcohol as well as MANY other Purim festivities, do not appear to fit the Jewish ideal of celebration and Simchah, yet these controversial practices seem either permitted or even supported by the Poskim. How are these Purim festivities NOT considered to be highly inappropriate? What exactly is the spirit of "V'Nohafuch Hu" or the whimsical, topsy-turvy nature of Purim? Where does it even come from? Is there a wrong way to tap into that spirit? Undoubtedly, yes. Then, what is the correct way? How and when is it ever okay? And, WHY, on Purim, is it okay?
