This is my honest review of the Disney loop autism film, and if it is any good!
So this film is a short film as part of the Disney shorts on the Disney+ app that they released in 2019.
The movie is a representation of a young boy and a young girl who is a non-verbal autistic girl out on a canoe on a lake.
The story unfolds that the young girl in question Renée is in the canoe on her own and this young boy who is also needing to get out on the water in a canoe is late and has to take the canoe with Renée.
He is aware Renée does not talk as she is a non-verbal autistic girl. This however blossoms into a very interesting and short affinity relationship.
The film shows autism in a very interesting light, sharing stimming, sharing repetitive listening and non-verbal communication.
The young boy has to learn very quickly how to communicate the needs of Renée in order to understand what’s going on. They do however come across a situation and she loses her cell phone which was her comfort stim and he has to avoid a meltdown.
The music the style and the design and also the story of this film is absolutely beautiful and I think it is a great representation of a small window into the life of autistic individuals.
Thing I love most about it is that this is about an autistic girl autistic female and it’s not often we see autism in girls represented in the media.
Let me know if you’ve seen it and what your thoughts are in a comment down below.
