Health & Fitness:Nutrition
Welcome to Protecting Your Nest with Dr. Tony Hampton. Matt Janes is an autonomic neuroscientist, nutritionist, as well as a functional medicine and mental health practitioner. He is also a keynote speaker, author, and works to help people resolve mental illness and chronic disease using diet. He has trained at Harvard, Berkley, and Liverpool universities as well as at the Institute of Functional Medicine.
In their discussion, Tony and Matt discuss the sadness, pain, and empathy involved in watching a loved one suffer from a mental illness, the work of Dr. Weston Price, the autonomic nervous system and how balance in this system relates to good mental health, the problem with diet-absolutism, and the role of Functional Medicine in the work that Matt does.
Additionally, Matt shares some insights about how a person’s personality is usually a general indicator of what type of diet will work for them, the importance of tailoring dietary advice to individuals from a scientific perspective, and the science of how sleep, meditation, and exercise effects our mental health.
