Too Young For Prostatitis? Dr. Mistry Answers Young Patient's Questions on Combatting Stubborn Symptoms
Thanks for tuning in to the Armor Men’s Health Hour Podcast today, where we bring you the latest and greatest in urology care and the best urology humor out there.
In this segment, Dr. Mistry and Donna Lee answer a young listener's question on urinary burning and urethral complaints after receiving oral intercourse. After STDs were ruled out, this relatively healthy and very young man's diagnosis was prostatitis, a bacterial infection of the prostate. Now, after months of continued symptoms despite taking antibiotics and other prescription medications in search of relief, he is looking for a second opinion. Dr. Mistry points out that this infection has lasted too long to be a "run of the mill" bacterial infection. The patient should complete a PCR urine test to check the DNA of his bacteria in order to better diagnose his condition. No matter the origin of the symptoms, Dr. Mistry recommends pelvic floor physical therapy to relax the pelvic floor and relieve urethral burning. He also suggests the use of lidocaine and steroid creams, which reduce painful burning in the tip of the penis for 90% of patients. Finally, although this patient has a history of healthy eating, a consultation with our functional medicine practitioner and wellness guru Shefaly Ravula can help identify any food sensitivities that may be contributing to irritative symptoms. It is crucial that patients young and old adopt a proactive approach to their health and continue to advocate for themselves along their wellness journey.
