Conformity refers to adjusting your own beliefs, values and actions in order to fit in the group. Throughout history, deviating from the cultural norms were seen as something risky, as the non-conformist would lose all the benefits of living in a group i.e. shared resources, protection against predators and a partner to share your genes with. However, in the modern world, to conform is to limit yourself. Where every individual is sick, corrupt or confused, losing yourself in the crowd is not the right move. So, what should a modern individual do? In this podcast segment, we go over the reasons why conformity can be good in some cases and bad in others, why non-conformity is equally important for the success of the culture and how can one bring out their highest version to contribute something unique to the world.
