Career Talk: Learn - Grow - Thrive
Business:Careers
Choosing a major feels insanely important … when you’re doing it.
According to the Washington Post only 27% of people have jobs related to their major.
If it feels like it’s really overwhelming and really hard, take a deep breath.
It is hard.
But know this.
73% of people aren’t using their degree.
When you’re looking at choosing a major you can take 2 different paths / approaches.
Option 1 -
You can go with your passions, your dreams, your personality.
Research.
List out what you’re passionate about.
List out what your dreams are.
Write about your dream life. Don’t limit that.
Take some personality tests.
Most of them have a job / career section. When you’re looking at that, what is of interest?
What will give you job / career satisfaction.
Find people who have worked in those fields.
Option 2 -
Going after the majors that align with the classes that you really enjoyed.
Find people in those fields, ask them all of the questions.
What you shouldn’t do when you’re trying to choose a major:
1 - you shouldn't do what other people are telling you to do
2 - you shouldn't decide based on what you’re friends are doing
3 - you shouldn't decide based on what is cool and popular
