Moment of Meditation: Not See Again (Matthew 23:39)
''[Jesus said:] "For I tell you, you will not see me again, until you say, 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord'" (Matthew 23:39).''
Jesus speaks these words as it was becoming evening on Holy Tuesday. He would not reappear in Jerusalem until Thursday. As He begins to leave Jerusalem for the night, He focuses Jerusalem's attention further on the fact that she has turned her back on her Messiah. She has once again allowed Satan to distract her from God's truth.
Jesus doesn't appear in Jerusalem again until He comes to celebrate the Passover as a pious Jew. At this time, we have the place where people come to see Jesus. The Lord's Supper. Where faithful Lutherans around the world sing, "Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!" Jesus foretells the institution of His body and blood given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. Jesus comes to you with the bread and wine. Physically there so that we receive Him.
"Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!" Jesus came in the flesh to save people from their sins. Being blessed by His sacrifice, you may rest secure that your sins have been forgiven. That you see Jesus as He comes in the name of the Lord. Amen.
