EP111 Commission Flats to World Title | Barry Michael
Roll with the punches, you say... well here's someone who's done that a time or two. All the way to earning himself the 1985 IBF Superfeatherweight Title. My mate Barry Michael is not just a world champion boxer, but an absolute gentleman who shares not just the punches he rolled inside the ring over the years; but today he shares some of the punches he rolled outside that square circle too.
From being raised in commission flats to the fighting on the world stage. I loved hearing about barry’s boxing career and the places it took him across the globe. The training, the lessons, the fighers, the glory of boxing back in the 1908's.
Barry also shares with us, the time underworld crime figure Alphonse Gangitano tried to bite his cheek off in a brutal attack that became a scene on the Australian Underbelly Series and that subsequently ended Barry’s boxing career. He also opens up a little on the heartbreaking struggle of his son Zac's Crystal Meth addiction and the havoc the Australian drug epidemic wreaks on families and relationships.
If you're a boxing fan you will LOVE this episode... if you're not a boxing fan you will LOVE this episode.
