America's Veterinarian Dr. Marty Becker | How to Raise Pets
Dr. Marty Becker, also known as "America's Veterinarian," has dedicated his life to improving the health of pets and their owners. He founded Fear Free, an organization that aims to prevent fear, anxiety, and stress in pets by educating and inspiring their caregivers. This includes professionals in the veterinary and pet industry, pet owners through FearFreeHappyHomes.com, and staff and volunteers of animal shelters and rescue groups through FearFreeShelters.
In partnership with Meredith Corporation, the largest media company in the U.S. dedicated to food, lifestyle, and entertainment, Fear Free and Dr. Becker introduced Happy Paws magazine. The magazine, written by veterinary and pet industry experts, including board-certified veterinary behaviorists, guides pet owners on how to feed their pets with the physical and emotional care they need to live happier, healthier, and fuller lives.
Dr. Becker served as the resident veterinary contributor on "Good Morning America" for 17 years. He is a member of the Board of Directors and Chief Veterinary Correspondent of American Humane. He is also a founding member of Core Team Oz for "The Dr. Oz Show" and a member of the Dr. Oz Medical Advisory Panel. Moreover, he is an advisory board member of The Grey Muzzle Organization, a group dedicated to helping homeless senior dogs.
Dr. Becker has written 23 books that have sold almost 8 million copies, including three New York Times best-sellers. He also writes the weekly nationally syndicated newspaper feature Pet Connection with his writing partner, Kim Campbell Thornton.
Additionally, Dr. Becker is an adjunct professor at his alma mater, the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine, and the Colleges of Veterinary Medicine at Colorado State University and the University of Missouri. He has also lectured at every veterinary school in the U.S. and is on the advisory board of World Vets. This program provides international veterinary and disaster relief services for animals.
Dr. Becker is a strong advocate for the human-animal bond, and he serves as an honorary board member of Pet Partners and the Humane Society of New York. He is also a past board member and supporter of his local pet rescue group, Second Chance Animal Adoption of Bonner Ferry, ID, and a supporter of the Panhandle Animal Shelter in Sandpoint, ID, the Kootenai Humane Society in Coeur d'Alene, ID, and the Whitman County Humane Society in Pullman, WA.
Dr. Becker practices at North Idaho Animal Hospital because he loves veterinary medicine, pets, and the people who care for them.
