The OneFootball podcast returns once again to take a look at women’s football across Europe.
This week Angelina Kelly is joined by Give Me Sport Women's Nancy Gillen and Her Football Hub's Jay Lewis.
First up and with the announcement of Joe Montemurro's departure from Arsenal at the end of the season, there is discussion about his decision and his potential replacement.
Then onto the Women's Super League where Arsenal celebrated a 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby, meanwhile Manchester City and Chelsea, despite both taking three points from their matches, looked a little off their game after their mid-week Champions League fixtures. As well as these games Manchester United made history as it was the first time the women’s team played at Old Trafford which ended in a 2-0 victory over West Ham.
Over in the Primera Iberdrola, and Barcelona had a monumental 4-0 win over Sevilla. The four goals not only marked the team's 100th goal but took their goal tally in the league to 103, meaning that the club's goal difference is now a staggering +100. This lead the panel to compare the club's success to that of Lyon in the 2014/15 season and whether Barça can be as good as the French side.
Next, in Italy there was a big win for AC Milan over rivals Inter Milan in the Derby della Madonnina which saw Valentina Giacinti put in another impressive performance which had the panel questioning if we could see the star playing in any other European leagues in the future. In addition it was a great 9-1 victory for Juventus over bottom of the table Bari which saw Cristina Girelli score four goals in 24 minutes!
And finally for this week's hot topic, the panel discuss the European Club Association's first women's football strategy, the potential of a second-tier European club competition and women's Club World Cup competition in the future. This lead the panel to discuss why this has been arguably the biggest year in women’s football yet!
