George Best : True Genius with Wayne Barton #37
Dave Murphy asks the questions to author and regular host Wayne Barton in anticipation of Wayne's book True Genius, a biography of George Best, which is published on Thursday, April 8.
Dave asks number of listener questions about the process of writing the book, and the podcast also features exclusive clips from just a handful of interviews undertaken for the book. Included are memories of Eddie Harrop, John Fitzpatrick and Jimmy Rimmer who played with George in the youth, reserve and, in John and Jimmy's case, the first team; as well as the recollections of Graham Williams, who played against George on his debut, Mike England, who had many famous encounters with the United legend, and Antonio Simoes, who suffered twice at the hands of George in 1966 and 1968.
Remember me for the football was George Best's last wish before his untimely death, aged just 59.
True Genius is the definitive family-backed account of his remarkable career published to coincide with what would have been his 75th birthday. The games, the goals, the glory. This is the untold story.
This biography goes into unparalleled depth to tell the complete story for the first time of how the lad from Cregagh, Northern Ireland, became the game's first superstar. Barton has trawled the archives and spoken to a host of former team-mates, managers, friends and close family to tell his story.
While there have been many books on George Best, with a foreword by the Best family and supplemented with rare images from the Daily Mirror archives this is the ultimate portrait of a pure football genius.
