This week I'm chatting with Henry Mooney, Ph.D. about plastics, oceans, and our environment.
Henry holds a Ph.D. in Global Systems, a Masters in Sustainable Development, and a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies. The bulk of his research focuses on the modern processes by which terrestrial and marine spatial boundaries are drawn, armed conflict over finite socioecological resources, and the emergent geopolitical alignments of foreign direct investment into sustainable development projects abroad. His field research has included coral reef surveys in Mauritius, the investigation of land grabbing for renewable energy development in Kenya, and the exploration of micro-economies formed around marine resource conservation in Mexico. Dr. Mooney currently works for an environmental consulting firm based in Ojai, California, gives talks on environmental philosophy and ocean plastics, and serves as a board member of a telecommunications non-profit based in San Diego. In his free time, he enjoys traveling and surfing.
