Moment of Meditation: Sleepy Virgins (Matthew 25:5)

''As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept (Matthew 25:5).''

In the parable, the bridegroom delayed in bringing the wedding procession to the virgins. While they were waiting they grew sleepy.

This is the biggest problem cited among Evangelicals. They had such great fire and energy to do God's will when they were saved. But as the years go on, that energy seems to die out. They grow tired of the Christian life after a while.

For those in liturgical churches, it seems like the energy hardly ever spikes. The repetitive nature of the liturgy seems to drown out the energy. But the liturgy is the lifeblood of the Church. It has been passed down for millenia. Our ancestors chanted and sang very much the same things we still sing and chant today. God's Word spoken to us and confessed by us to be true. While the liturgy '''APPEARS''' so rote and boring, it is truly what '''KEEPS''' the Chrisitan faith alive.

God's Word grants life everlasting to those who hear the Gospel message of the eternal Bridegroom's coming. While we may grow tired, we can never quit. We must keep the faith and stand on it. Even though we may grow tired in this life, Jesus has promised rest to all who come to Him (Matthew 11:28-30). So come to Him, through the liturgy, and be strengthened in His Word. Amen.
