Music for Easteride - Episode 1
In ‘Music for Eastertide’ Matthew Ward introduces songs and instrumental works from over a thousand years of music celebrating the most important date in the Church’s year. From dramatic re-imaginings of the Easter events to music for the liturgies of the season, this series will explore music both well-loved and unfamiliar. In the Easter Octave the programmes will focus on the first events of Easter: Jesus’ resurrection and his first apparitions. After this, programmes will focus on various aspects of Eastertide, including a programme on settings of the word ‘Alleluia’ and one on Easter Marian music, culminating in programmes of music for Ascension and Pentecost. Join Matthew in a journey of musical exploration which will not fail to lift your spirits and deepen your experience of Easter joy this year.
Episode 1 - Music attempting to imagine the events of the Resurrection, from the trembling earth to Mary Magdalene’s encounter with the angels and then with Jesus. Music includes J.S.
