Full Thickness Skin Grafts: Dr. Mistry Answers Listener Question About Treating a Burnt Penis
Thanks for tuning in to the Armor Men’s Health Hour Podcast today, where we bring you the latest and greatest in urology care and the best urology humor out there.
In this segment, Dr. Mistry and Donna Lee answer a listener question about hyper-sensitive penis skin following a serious burn injury in his youth. Recently, the burned skin has become more painful and he wants to know what his options for treatment are. Dr. Mistry explains the caller could try starting with steroid shots to help calm the hyper-sensitive nerve tissue being over-stimulated. Another option is the injection of platelet rich plasma (PRP) into the affected skin, which promotes the regeneration of damaged tissue and cells. Finally, Dr. Mistry suggests that a great option would be a full thickness skin graft. This surgery is generally performed by a urologist/plastic surgeon team and is frequently used to replace the loss of skin associated with a buried penis--and with amazing results! The look, feel, and function of the penis after full thickness skin grafts are typically excellent. If you or someone you love has had a burn or other injury resulting in painful penile skin, please give us a call today!
Dr. Mistry is a board-certified urologist and has been treating patients in the Austin and Greater Williamson County area since he started his private practice in 2007.
