When we start to use the Enneagram, a lot of people around us don’t understand it—and have a lot of opinions about it.
“I don’t want a label,” “This is putting me in a box,” “People are unique,” are all things you might hear.

I get it—because I said a lot of those same things myself.
When my therapist wanted me to take the Enneagram test, I said, “Listen, lady, I’m here in rehab and really don’t need another label.”
But today I want to talk about the Enneagram and looking beyond the box.
If we just learn about our type and the types of people we care about, we aren’t getting the whole picture. There’s so much more than just our core type—there are lots of complexities to the Enneagram.
The Enneagram is like a puzzle we’re constantly putting together.
We’re putting together the puzzle of ourselves and other people—not to manipulate, but to genuinely understand.
After my initial hesitation, I remember my therapist saying, “This will help you get out of the box not only you’ve put yourself in, but that the world has put you in.”
