Welcome back to mini-episode #4 for sexual assault awareness month.
Today we're talking about the physiological & emotional effects of sexual violence of a survivor.

Depression is the first effect of sexual violence a victim can experience.
Experiencing flashbacks is the second effect, triggered by ordinary things.
Tip: grounding is very useful when experiencing a flashback. Familiarizing yourself with your surroundings and taking back your control is very beneficial to come back to reality.
Post traumatic stress disorder or PTSD is the third effect a survivor can obtain.
PTSD: A disorder in which a person has difficulty recovering after experiencing or witnessing a terrifying event.
The fourth effect a victim can experience is self harm.
A victim could contract a sexually transmitted infection.
A victim may also start to engage in substance abuse.
The seventh effect could be dissociation; a defense mechanism used to cope with the trauma/sexual violence.
Panic Attacks are also a common effect, a sudden feeling of intense anxiety.
Eating disorders, Pregnancy, sleep disorder, suicide/suicidal thoughts are also effects a victim may experience after the event of sexual violence.
