20TIMinutes: A Mental Health Podcast
Health & Fitness:Mental Health
Doug Middleton, graduate of Appalachian State & current Safety for the Jacksonville Jaguars, joins host Tim McCarthy on another episode of, 20TIMinutes.
Doug took time to sit down [virtually] with Tim to go over his organization Dream The Impossible. Which is to fix the lack of awareness surrounding Mental Health in the African American community. We know that a person’s mental health can be affected by many conditions and situations and it is our job as an organization to help find a bridge between that person’s current life and the resources they need to live a life they can be proud of.
Doug's friend AJ Morrison, suffered from severe depression for almost five years. Through many years of support, enough progress was not made to keep AJ alive. AJ's death sparked a fire in us to make people more aware of mental health issues and help them learn how to live an impactful life no matter what hurdles are placed in front of them. We aim to de-stigmatize mental health so that people don't feel as though something is wrong with them. Caring for your mental health is every bit as important as your physical well being.
In this episode Doug shares a story on how cut throat some NFL teams can be & Tim tries a new nickname for Doug, that he hope he likes!. Tim also asks what his go-to meal is at the Charlotte, NC fast food joint, the Cookout & what song he would choose as his personal entrance song. You don't want to miss this episode!
