Moment of Meditation: Depart (Matthew 25:41-43)
Original Broadcast: June 2014
''Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me' (Matthew 25:41-43).''
No one wants to hear the words, "Depart from Me, you cursed." No one wants to be cursed. Being cursed means that you are outside of someone's favor. And no one wants to be out of God's favor.
Every religion other than Christianity has the same focus: we must atone for our sins before an angry God. That we must make ourselves acceptable to God. But all these religions are cursed. No one can atone for their sins before God. Atonement can only be made by the holy Son of God on the cross of Calvary. The self-sacrifice of the One who had departed from His heavenly throne to become a curse for you that you might become a blessing. Amen.
