Jamaal Stephenson. MN Vikings Director of College Scouting. Ep. 29
Jamaal has quickly risen up the ranks within the Minnesota Vikings scouting department. He joined the staff in 2002 as a regional scout after a couple of short stints with the then Washington Redskins and also Houston Texans. For years he learned the craft and art of evaluating college prospects. During that time, he forged an impressive trusted network of college coaches and players. He learned the life of an NFL scout is certainly not glamorous; it's jammed packed with flights, rental cars, hotels, early mornings, late nights, tight schedules, and many days away from your family. But it seems to be all paying off. In 2017, Jamaal was named Director of College Scouting for the Minnesota Vikings. His responsibilities include managing a team of area/regional scouts, providing pages of information to the GM and Head Coach, shaping the roster and finding the next great stars. Jamaal and I talk about his life and specifically breakdown most the 11 Vikings draft picks. From his home in Maryland, I'm so grateful for the time Jamaal gave us on Unrestricted.
