Nick Moritz was actually living in China when COVID-19 started. He quickly came home to Michigan, and of course the pandemic followed. While overseas, he saw expensive "foot door openers" that had to be drilled into expensive industrial doors.
Nick figured he could create a similar product here, but using adhesives instead of expensive drilling. He soon teamed up with 3D printing expert Cliff Wells, who had also returned home from China. Nick takes us through the journey of this new and innovative company, working with 3M, and eventually developing a customizable product that prevents us from having to touch germ-ridden door handles.
Applications of Toad Opener also go beyond COVID-19. Industrial use of this product can also cut down on cold and flu germs, MRSA, and really anyone that doesn't want to touch a dirty door handle.
Our co-host Andrea Arndt also talks with Nick about copyrights, patents, and the challenges of a company like his.
