In this episode, we have another amazing guest, Rebecca Shisler Marshall. Rebecca is a Ph.D., an integrative wellness expert and shamanic practitioner, and an associate professor at the University of Georgia. I invited Rebecca on the podcast because I was so excited to discover another kindred soul Ph.D. out there who was still walking the talk of a scientific evidence-based lifestyle, but also willing and able to tune into her intuition.
- Rebecca shares about the different modalities she uses in her practice, including yoga, mindfulness, nutrition, energy work, and shamanism, and why she believes taking an integrative approach is so impactful in terms of her clients’ healing and growth.
- Rebecca shares how her own health issues, including a severe car accident leaving her in chronic pain, sent her on a journey to look at alternative methods to heal. She discovered although she received helpful information from mainstream medical professionals, it wasn’t the whole picture.
- Rebecca now understands that her body was trying to communicate with her through her illnesses, and how her car accident was her final wake up call to start making significant changes in how she cared for herself and her body.
- Rebecca tells us about her “aha moment” when she read about Shamanism in the Making Your Way in a Wild New World by Martha Beck, she felt her body vibrating all over and knew she had to learn more.
- Rebecca explains how she sees her work as a shamanic practitioner as being one who walks beyond the veil and connects with her spirit guides to provide information and healing for her clients. She emphasizes that it is the guides who actually do the healing work and that she is merely a conduit.
- She shares how she works with the helping spirits to remove energies that we have picked up that are causing dis-ease physically, mentally, or emotionally.
- We discuss soul retrieval and the belief in shamanic practice that if someone experiences a challenge or trauma, the essence of a soul can go into hiding. Shamanic practitioners, like Rebecca, can help to identify and retrieve those lost parts of the soul.
- Rebecca explains to us that in ancestral work, there is a connection with the elements: fire, water, air, and earth. These elements are guides and spirits in their own sense and can help us live a more balanced life.
- We discuss how some helping and healing professionals, particularly in the mainstream medical community, come from a scarcity mindset and inadvertently treat patients in a way that can be disempowering.
