[Episode 87] How the incredible Mandy Hughes, a parent carer with dyslexia who didn’t do tech, decided to be the change and found her calling
If you’ve ever used the phrase ‘life just got in the way’, you need to hear the remarkable story of Mandy Hughes. As a parent carer to a daughter with complex needs, Mandy has been in and out of hospital more times than she cares to remember and had to make the tough decision to give up her hairdressing business to put her daughter first.
She’s experienced the struggles of being a single parent, suffered a devastating house fire, and is in a daily battle with her dyslexia (a battle she is most definitely winning, we might add! 💪). It’s safe to say, life’s struggles most definitely get in Mandy’s way.
Far from accepting her lot, Mandy decided to be the change and created the Bubble Hub, a community project and networking destination for parent carers in her hometown of Builth Wells in Wales. You wouldn’t know it to look at her today, but Mandy – with her whizzy website, Facebook page, social media accounts, YouTube channel, and podcast – was a self-confessed technophobe before she discoveredTechPixies a year ago.
But having Jackie Chan-ned those ANTs into the long grass 🥋, Mandy’s discovered exactly what she’s capable of.
