033: The Synergy of an Inclusive Community with Lauren Gilmore
Lauren Gilmore is the owner of Soul Yoga, an inclusive community of loving hearts that treat every single soul that walks into that door equally.
What got Lauren to try yoga was that longing to be part of a community, which was something she had while living overseas. When she met Soul Yoga, she initially wiped floors in exchange for free yoga until she became an energy exchange and fell in love with it. Then she did teacher training, started to teach there, became an assistant studio manager, and now she owns it.
People bring a certain amount of baggage with them and Lauren wasn’t an exception having had a traumatic childhood. And so, there were so many things that triggered her as a teacher, unaware that her trauma actually kept coming up. She found herself in the same cycle and pattern of attracting the same toxic people over and over. But once she changed one thing, it became easy to change another.
When you’re practicing yoga, what you do on the mat takes place off the mat as well. On the mat, you work hard, confront feelings of frustration, and then you have to breathe through that frustration in order to find ease. And by continually going to yoga, especially when you do yoga training, you get to think through things and learn that yoga is more than just doing a pose.
Today, Lauren talks about how yoga impacted her personally, how she’s able to create a community where people feel safe, and how her purpose is now expanding even more with mediumship.
