21: The Continuing Spiritual Progression of Eternity by Niánn Emerson Chase | Vanetics
In Jesus’ day many people missed the opportunity for their highest spiritual growth due to religious pride, and we still wrestle with this problem today. In this teaching Niánn Emerson Chase draws from a section in The URANTIA Book called “Teaching at Sidon” about a point in Jesus’ teaching mission in which many of his own Jewish people were in hostile array against him because he refused the political and religious positions they wanted him to take up. The Jewish leaders of that time were stuck in static religious doctrine and comfortable in their positions of power. They refused to accept the expanded spiritual teachings of Jesus that would change their lives.
Continual spiritual progress and openness to the leading of the Spirit of Truth is essential for soul growth. If we become too attached to our positions or perspectives, too crystalized in our beliefs and agendas, we may miss the next revelation of truth God is bringing us.
From a teaching from The URANTIA Book, Paper 156, Section 2 - “Teaching in Sidon”
