The WWE superstar-turned-actor John Cena is famous for his all-American persona. But this time the performer put on a show for China in the form of an apology. His big mistake? Daring to refer to Taiwan as a country while on the press junket for F9. Should Cena have apologized when the People’s Republic of China is an authoritarian, human-rights-violating regime? Was he pressured by the studio to speak up to save that almighty international box office? Is China’s hand too heavy in America’s filmmaking machinations?
Speaking of movies, Seth Rogen isn’t exactly a beacon of “clean” comedy. So, when he says that jokes, by and large, do not age well -- it means something. The boys get into cancel culture, revisit the idea of tasteful/tasteless jokes, and generally try to parse out the differences between hateful “comedy” and insensitive comedy with a purpose.
