Back in Spring of 2017, Fyre Fest was going to be the experience of a lifetime. A luxury music festival in an idyllic tropical setting on a private island in the Bahamas. Festival-goers were promised a real-life island fantasy with luxury accommodations, gourmet food and the chance to party with rappers and models. People paid hundreds to hundreds of thousands for their tickets and accommodations for Fyre Fest, expecting a weekend living in the lap of luxury.
What they got was something slightly less than that. The luxury villas they were promised turned out to be FEMA disaster relief tents. The local seafood, Bahamian style sushi, and pig roast they were promised turned out to be… you know it - cheese sandwiches in a styrofoam container. Mostly rich millennials with job titles like influencer were suddenly resorting to Lord of the Flies level anarchy just to make sure their most basic needs were met.
