Houston Ensemble #48 Josh Applebee Expert Audio Engineer
Josh started at SugarHill Recording Studios in 2003 as an intern and staff engineer, served as Night Manager and Recital Manager at The Shepherd School of Music, Rice University from 2007-2012, and then in 2012 joined the management team and later served as General Manager of SugarHill before leaving in 2018 to pursue freelance opportunities. Highlights on my time at SugarHill include working with J Cole, Nas, Yo Gotti, Kid Ink, Paul Wall, Hubert Laws, Robert Glasper, RCA Records, Universal Music Group, Los Skarnales, Kay Weathers, and many local Houston acts. In addition to studio work, Josh founded the Canned Acoustica concert series with partners Mark C. Austin and David Garcia in 2011, helped to launch River Revival Music Fest with full stage production and audio recording, was nominated for “Best Producer” in the 2013 Houston Press Music Awards, am a voting member of NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) and a member of AES (Audio Engineering Society).
