EP90: How Do We Talk About Racism and Oppression with Students?
In Episode 90 of The Staffroom Podcast, Chey and Pav talk about the importance of talking to students about racism and oppression, and offer strategies on how to introduce some of the heavy topics and conversations. Chey and Pav discuss the ways in which we can do this in a way that isn't reactive or performative, and makes an impact with students. They discuss ways in which educators can honour and celebrate the identities of students, and keep the conversations local and as close to the community as possible. We must also attempt to embed the conversation everywhere we can within the curriculum and school environment, always coming at the conversation with an asset lens, and not a deficit.
A rich discussion with several a-ha! moments throughout! Tune into this great chat, and always be a part of it by tagging @StaffPodcast #TheStaffroomPodcast on Twitter! Tell us what you think, interact, and give us your feedback and reflections.
