When Greg Kite was drafted by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 1983 NBA Draft with the 21st pick, he knew he’d have a tough time seeing some significant playing time with future Hall of Famers Larry Bird, Kevin McHale and Robert Parish making up the Celts’ front court.
The 6-foot-11 center out of Brigham Young University, played a limited role off the bench, averaging nearly eight minutes per game while enjoying four straight NBA Finals appearances, including a pair of titles, in his four full seasons with the team.
Kite wound up enjoying a healthy 12-year NBA career and only had one tiny regret when his playing days were done.
Kite went on to play for the Clippers, Hornets, Kings, Magic, Knicks and Pacers. Statistically, his best years came with Orlando, a place he still calls home, when he played all 82 games during the 1990-91 season, averaging 27.1 minutes per game. Kite averaged a career-best 7.2 rebounds per contest and 4.8 ppg. in the first of his four seasons with the Magic.
Welcome Greg Kite! A two time NBA Champion and a member of one of the greatest teams in NBA history, the 1986 Boston Celtics.
