In this episode of Wheeling, Wine and Whiskey, the boys do a thorough recap of this years club adopt-a-trails. This was the year of extreme logging with over 100 fallen trees that needed to be cut and moved off of the trails. As you will hear, the work was difficult but rewarding and would not have been possible if the number of members that helped hadn’t come up. The fact is that even with all the help that was available, the opening of the Mattley trails isn’t complete yet. The number of trees down was epic!
The Adopt-A-Trail program that the forest service runs is a critical part of the system that helps to keep the extensive trail systems in our favorite areas open and safe. The program is centered around having volunteers monitor their chosen trails throughout the season to clear fallen trees so that there are no unintended reroutes, pick up garbage and stabilize erosion. It is important work and rewarding. If you or your organization is interested in this program, please contact your local forest ranger station for the area that you recreate in and ask how you can help out!
Cheers!
