It’s human nature to feel overwhelmed. Stress is a survival mechanism telling our bodies to take a break. When we experience stress, we can get caught in a negative thought pattern. These thoughts feed into belief systems that create guilt and frustration and low self-esteem which can cause us to revert back to old patterns and behavior.
When we realize our parenting skills to ourselves have become skewed, our answers to why we continue to mitigate our own needs can be traced back to what we may not have received in childhood.
The process of learning how to reparent ourselves forces us to clarify our “whys” in multiple areas of our lives. It forces us to know ourselves, trust ourselves, and establish clear boundaries with others.
In this week’s Recovery Coaching call, the group helped Stephanie. Feeling burnt out and swamped with school work, her negative self-talk has run rampant. The group also helped Jennifer. Having trouble setting clear boundaries with her adult daughter, she learns she must begin the reparenting process for herself before she can move forward in asking for her own needs.
