Can coffee be beneficial? Well, it depends on how you use it throughout the day. 80% of the world drinks coffee and it can have a positive impact on brain function, neurological health, athletic performance and even fat burning/metabolic rate.
What are some good tips to optimize coffee use?
Best to NOT drink coffee first thing in the morning. Let your own circadian rhythm to wake you up naturally to kickstart your day. If you really need a boost, take a cold shower!
Don't drink coffee too late in the day. I would say no later than 3PM because we don't want caffeine to affect your sleep.
Do an occasional caffeine reset so you don't have to rely on caffeine and you can reset your adenosine receptors. Switch to decaf if you still want the flavor and take a week off from caffeine once a month.
Drink it 15-30 minutes before a workout to increase energy levels and get adrenaline going. This is optional but could give your workouts that added boost.
Lastly, be sure to choose a high quality organic whole bean coffee because over 97% of the world's coffee is a commodity crop grown to maximize yield, sprayed with pesticides, and stored in a way that encourages mold growth and overoxidation of the beans.
