This episode features Kate from Ignorance Was Bliss podcast. Kate is a former forensic Psychologist and provides some valuable insights into the case. This is the conclusion of the series.
This case is unlike any other case that I have covered, because technically it's a solved case. The case of Darlie Routier is controversial and has the support of the innocence project. Many people believe that an intruder broke into 26 year old Darlie's Rowlett, Texas home and murdered her young boys 5 year old Damon and 6 year old Devon in 1996, while gravely injuring Darlie. All while her husband Darrin and 7 month old son Drake slept upstairs.
The state was sure that Darlie was the perpetrator and that there was no evidence of an intruder. Many believe that the errors made & prejudicial manner by which the trial was conducted would mean a new trial for Darlie. That hasn't been the case. Even though DNA testing was ordered in 2018, we still have yet to see any movement. Listen and weigh in for yourselves on a case that has bent my brain in every which way and I cannot with any degree of certainty tell you I know what happened. I will however have experts weigh in throughout this series so we can all have a better understanding of Darlie, her words, the investigation and the evidence against her, as well as the evidence that potentially could exonerate her if she was given a new trial.
