Episode 011 - The Jew in the City: A Conversation with Allison Josephs
ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Allison Josephs was eight years old when a personal tragedy sparked an existential crisis that lasted years, resolving itself through an intensive Jewish search. Flashing forward, Allison found herself an unwitting ambassador of Orthodox Judaism to the press and in the emerging environments of YouTube and social media. She formalized these efforts in an organizations, Jew in the City, featuring an annual Orthodox All Stars banquet and videos, but also behind-the-scenes advocacy efforts to improve the community and to assist those struggling to find their place in it.
In this interview, we discuss Allison's background, plus JITC's genesis and maturation moving beyond idealized projections, while maintaining a proud and positive stance. We also explore her celebrated relationship with TV celebrity - and neuroscientist - Mayim Bialik, who has become an observant Jewish spokeswoman of her own renown.
For those listening live, this podcast is being released in the week leading up to the Fifth Annual Orthodox Jewish All-Stars awards banquet, taking place November 5th, 2017 in New York City. See more here: http://jewinthecity.com/ojallstars/
