S1E12: Exploring The History Of Hill Stations In India
HistoryChatter walks up to a review of the history of major Hill stations in India. Following the research of Prof. Queeni Pradhan as published in her 2017 book Empire in the Hills, the first part of a multi-part series on Hill Stations recalls how the Europeans imagined the hill stations when their eyes fell upon them for the first time. Generally, they believed that these reminded them of home in England. In future, they thought of these places as a health resort, summer capital, Cantonment, and an economic and military outpost of the empire. This episode of the podcast recalls these European visions and projections around the hill towns. The later episodes will focus on how they acquired these places and preceded to change them to their advantage, often by making the locals and their pasts invisible.
