The Sharon Fitzmaurice Podcast
Society & Culture:Personal Journals
An amazing in depth conversation with Peter Kelly, a native of Waterford Ireland, who has worked through the chaos of his life to find clarity, peace and self-acceptance. He shares this in his work as a poet, writer, teacher and guide. An explorer of the untouched regions of the subconscious mind, Peter writes about his journey from darkness into light in his new poetry book 'The Phoenix Birth'.
Having experienced many difficulties throughout his life including falling into drug and alcohol addiction and a spiralling depression, Peter began writing again while serving a prison sentence for drug charges in his early twenties. Getting clean while in prison, Peter went on to writing album reviews, artist biographies and press releases while working for some time in the music industry and using poetry to accompany artist releases under his own label. After leaving the music industry Peter worked within the corporate world, climbing the ladder to a reputable position, all the while working on his self-improvement and a greater calling, eventually leading him to his true path in helping others. Part of this greater calling has been his reintroduction to his true self and his open and truthful raw expression of his journey thus far. By exposing the truths from a lifetime of struggle to overcome his demons both within and without, those that distract us from our true great direction has been Peter’s greatest gift in touching the hearts and minds of those who face the same struggles in a world of masked pain.
We talk about the need for balance of the masculine and feminine energies and finding the source of light within us all, letting that flame burn bright, allowing our true and authentic self to be truly seen. We touch on plant medicine, shedding the layers of programming and how our subconscious mind relays information to us in symbols.
Peter exposes his insecurities in his poetry and in doing so draws the reader in to feel his passion and purpose. His raw vulnerability jumps out of each line whilst questioning the patterns of pain and self-sabotage endured when all he truly wanted was connection - to himself and to the world.
