OPC 033: Having Reservations and Embracing Accountability
Accountability is understanding that our life decisions impact us and everyone around us. In addiction recovery, accountability is untangling mental and emotional patterns that have been rooted within our innate nature for years or even decades. Establishing accountability in recovery takes time and patience.
In this weeks Recovery Coaching call the group helped Shelley. Nearing the end of her probation, she finds herself having reservations about using now that she's no longer accountable with drug testing. The group also helped Sonia. From a habitual marijuana habit to gaining sobriety, and now going back to school, she’s fearful she will fail and disappoint herself in continuing a cycle of never finishing what she starts.
Often, we allow our thoughts, feelings, and emotions to overwhelm us. If we allow these emotions to serve as our internal guidance system, they begin to tell us what to do next. When we’re fearful we’re going to fail, we show up, thank the fear, and allow others to hold space and guide our next moves.
