Episode 116a: The Spanish Reformation
Description: The Protestant Reformation really got kicked off in 1517 when Martin Luther nailed his iconic 99 Theses on the door of Wittenberg Cathedral. At this time Spain and the Spanish Empire was the most Catholic of Kingdoms. Those two facts don’t tell the entire story though. Inside of that Most Catholic of Kingdom of Spain, there was an idea of reforming the Catholic church that would take many different routes. Some would run parallel with Luther’s Reformation, some would intersect and others would collide. All of this is in the shadow of the Spanish Inquisition.
