Moment of Meditation: Distant Women (Matthew 27:55-56)
''There were also many women there, looking on from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to Him, among whom were Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Joseph and the mother of the sons of Zebedee (Matthew 27:55-56).''
The women who had been so close to Jesus in His ministry now stood off at a distance. They wanted to be there for Him at the end as well. They were among Jesus' most faithful followers. Where the Apostles wouldn't show their faces, the women were there to offer their moral support.
These women would be the great witnesses of the resurrection. They were there at His death. They would be there at the empty tomb. They become His great proclaimers.
Their ministry was one of simple service. Misguided sometimes, but they followed Jesus with their whole heart. They were where they needed to be. Not for Jesus. For themselves. Are you where you need to be? Amen.
